Get the Lead Out

No, I am not referring to the catch phrase Rock 101 uses before they are about to play a Led Zepplin Song. I am talking about taking a supplement specifically designed to remove heavy metal deposits in your body. I have had a few questions as to why I had a lead level graph on my site, and why I have taken to referring to myself as Jenn McLead. The truth is while working at Teck in the Lead Refinery I managed to ingest a portion of their products, (i.e.) lead. I went to a health food store yesterday and was some how convinced that there was a supplement which would remove said deposits.

Humifulvate™ is the supplement and according to their sales rep and the website it is obtained from a 3,000 - 10,000 year old geologically young peat deposit on the shores of Lake Balaton in Hungary. These peat deposits contain many types of humic and fulvic acids, chemical by-products of decomposition of organic matter. Humic and fulvic acids are very efficient chelators and ion exchangers. By organically binding trace minerals, they assist in the incorporation of these trace minerals into organisms more efficiently than inorganic forms, such as found in most vitamin/mineral supplements on the market today.

In particular it is noted that this can be particularly helpful in minimizing the risk of brain damage from mercury – super! And as an added bonus ”are shown to be completely safe and effective.” The functions they perform are varied and multiple including the transport of metal ions, contribution to the cation-exchange capacity of soil and water and binding of various organic molecules such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. They can reduce the toxicity of certain toxic compounds found in soils and waters, as well as to increase the bioavailabity of essential nutrients and trace minerals in the diet.

I will be back at Teck in the fall and I will be able to see how successful my heavy metal detox will be, (when I get back on to my monthly monitoring). I know before I worked in Trail, (I was living in Victoria), I had a count of >milligram/deciliter of lead. I am hoping to get it back around the 0-range druing my time in the Capital City. Humifulvate™ costed $19 for a month of supplements, (less 5% for the asking), and as the sales rep said, "how much is your health really worth?". Let's hope more that $18.05.

The Past Month

Well, as promised to my Dad this morning I am making an entry. This should sum up my life for the past month, keeping in mind I am not going to mention school, except in this next sentence. I am currently attending engineering school full time, enough said.

So let's start with today, and work my way back as far into the memory as I can recall. Today Jon and I went whale watching with his cousin Claire. She is a sweetheart from England and a marine biologist working for 5 Star Whale Watching. Today the whales were out and about, frolicking and jumping. This was the first shot I took and the only one that doesn't just look like open water. This guy's name is Ruffles, because his dorsal fin is ruffled.

On Friday night we camped at our favorite RV Park, 4 All Seasons. It is just up island in Cedar, and if you think it sounds like a good place to find white trash, you are probably right. The beauty of this place isn't the 24-hour RV generators, (although they do rival the ocean in relaxing noises), it is that they have 4 walk in tent sites. The walk consists of crossing over a rocky slope and leaves you right on the ocean facing Thetis Island. The next morning we went up and rode in Nanaimo at the Doumont Lake area. We had a very fast, flowy ride in the rain.

Since I have been back on the island I have had a couple friends make the trip over, thanks Christa and Karen. It seems the trend that we have a few drinks, like the special margarita seen below, or as in Karen’s case we just hit all the brew pubs in town and sample every single beer at them. I figure the beer tour day consisted of over 15 types of beer and at least 3 litres of booze a piece. Surprisingly enough both of us were up the next morning feeling half decent.

I also got roped into attending a Mary Kay party. Here is the ever so typical before and after shot.

I have been entered in the Mary Kay contest, fingers crossed I might win. Although, if I do win, I might just win a life time supply of the green eye shadow that I was coerced into wearing.

Jon and I recently raced in the Mount Douglas Gutbuster. It was 11 kms of intense hill climbs that left both of us, (me especially) in some serious muscle pain for the next 3 days. Here is a shot of me summiting Mt. Doug for the third, and last, time.

If you think it looks like I am walking, it is because I am.

One last note for the records, Jon now has a Jeep Laredo. It has a whopping 25 litres / 100 km propane consumption, but "is one sweet ride".

And there you go Dad, a pretty exciting life I lead, no?
