The Postcard Shot

During my time here in Trail I plan on finding the perfect postcard shot. My mission started today on a sleepy, cloudy, dull Sunday afternoon. Keep an eye on the Flickr pictures, specifically in the 'Trail Postcard Mission' set of photos. Today's theme was Dull and Dreary. I will work on getting some of the Leadheads in, (aka the locals), and also there will one day be sunshine, then I can work on a Chipper, Bright and Happy theme.

The Martini Party gone to the Doctor

This past Friday night I was invited to a martini party hosted by one of the local Engineers here in Trail. The roommate and I were loaded with food and beverage supplies as we decended into the basement venue excited to try new drinks and mingle with the local leadheads. There was rave music pumping and the sound of voices as I turned the corner. I stopped dead in my tracks, OMG, there was an intense game of Dr. Mario being played on a HUGE 40" flat screen tv. These are the things dreams are made of. Intantly my focus shifted from the colourful beverages being served up to the colourful pills falling from the sky.

One can not understand the excitement inside of me. I have found like-minded people living, breathing and playing the original Dr. Mario on the original Ninendo cartridge here in Trail.

I quickly made a challenge to the next game winner and ended up spending a very enjoyable evening glued to a tv set. There were a couple very challenging competitors, although I will admit I won many more than I lost! God bless Dr. Mario!

Parking Tickets

In regards to my last entry I have done a bit of question asking, and snooping around. Apparently there are metermaids, and they do issue tickets in the value of $5.00. If you pay quickly it is only 2 or 3 dollars, (there was disagreement in the value). Recently the tickets went up from $2.00 to $5.00. As well, it should be noted that there is free parking all around Trail, the meters only span about 4 blocks of the area. I believe the parkade is free, but at the very least the 1/2 block (squared), of parking for the supermarket in the middle of town. This seemed to be the local's favorite, the local's without a nickel anyways.

15 minutes for 5 cents.... only in Trail ?!?

It is nothing other than parking! I am wondering if it is even worth the metermaid's time to deal with this?

I can understand in Nelson where they only accept coins larger than a quarter, (which will get you 1/2 hour), or in Vancouver where you'd be lucky to get 15 minutes for a loonie, but worrying about a nickel? Are there even metermaids in this town? Maybe the meters are charity meters, the equivalent to leaving your change from your groceries in a tin for the SPCA.
