How is it...

How is it possible that someone, (me), can do homework for 9 days, (almost straight), and still feel like they are behind??

That is the question I find myself asking as this reading week winds down... I must add, I don't believe I have ever had a reading break that I have actually read in.

Grrrr!

PS, just disregard the activities from the previous blog entry.

Burnt Bridge

I have now had my first mountain bike ride of the year 2005, (not to mention first road bike ride and first yoga session). Ahh, the reading break was enjoyable. I didn't manage to get off the island, as I had earlier planned, however, the island managed to keep me entertained.

Burnt Bridge was a shuttle ride, meaning I only had to ride my bike down the hill and somebody would drive me back up. The trail down was "flowy". The definition of flowy, to me, is something that is easy enough that I can stay on my bike the whole descent and don't have to slow or stop in order to scope out stunts or steeps. That was this. It was a great place to have the first ride of the season.

As for the first road ride, it started on Chinese New Year's in Chinatown. After a filling meal of dim sum, lots of dumplings filled with shrimp or mystery meat, I head to mile 0 by Beacon Hill Park. I rode for an unknown length of time on an unknown distance. The one thing did know was that the road bike was FAST. I went along Dallas Road, followed the "scenic" drive past Cadboro Bay and up to Mount Douglas Parkway. From there I headed home, quads throbbing, and calves aching.

This morning I decided to stretch out my aching body and I went to a power yoga class at Yoga Shala on Broad Street. They have a kick-ass intro deal of 5 classes for $25. However I didn't bring any cash, so I got an even better deal, 1 class for $0. After 10 minutes of the 1 1/2 hour class my legs were shaking. After 20 minutes I was sweating and trying to "breath nice and deep". After 80 minutes I collapsed on to the pink yoga mat and lay there as the instructor talked us through the cool down.

At this point, 3 hours after the class concluded, I already feel my glute, back, and shoulder muscles. I don't know what they are doing, but no matter if I am standing sitting or lying I can still feel them.

Thank goodness my reading break is almost over, I don't know if my body can handle much more breaking

Training Mode

Since 10 am this morning, I have been in TRAINING MODE. I have decided to enter the Gutbuster Trail running race. It is being hosted by some people that host races and it is being held at Thetis Lake Park, which is almost in Victoria. There are two distances, the 8km and 15km. At present moment I am leaning towards the 15km one. Having never raced anything over 10km, (come to think of it, never run anything over 10km), I think it will be a good challenge!

As part of my training mode I have decided to schedule "running days" and "work out days" in advance. I may even start writing out the mileage and the times I am doing. Not to mention posting my goal online. Once it is on the web it is real-right?

The other change while moving into training mode will be my decreased consumption of booze. Not that I drink all that much, but now I will only have, at maximum, one alcoholic drink every 24 hours. I should be able to do that for the next 29 days...

Long and short, the countdown is at 29 days, the question is, will I be ready??

Rain in Tofino

Yes it is true! Jon and I headed up to Tofino only to find rain. It rained the entire time we were there, and it was great. The waves were crashing and the surfers were out on their boards.

We stayed for one night at the Gull Cottage B&B. We were their only customers and had the place to ourselves. They had a neat set up and we got free run of their living room, tv room, hot tub and the bag of ginger cookies.

Check out a couple more shots... Not now though... in two weeks. It is out of commission at present moment.
