More Bacon Appies

Just last Thursday, the night before the last final exam, I headed to an ex-OUC teammate?s house for a potluck.

The week prior I had gone for dinner with the teammate, and I had been ranting about the bacon-weiner hors d?oevres that I had had at the Sleep Country Christmas Party. She immediately looked at her partner and they said, (almost in sync), ?You haven?t had bacon until you?ve had bacon and pineapple?. I laughed; she went on to explain the delicate art of wrapping uncooked bacon around medium-sized pineapple chucks. ?From there?, she continued, ?you put a toothpick through the pineapple/bacon combo and let them cook for an good half hour in a medium temperature oven?. I laughed some more and soon forgot about it.

Well, as I showed up to the potluck with my homemade apple crisp, (thanks Jon, it was a hit), I could smell the unmistakeable aroma of bacon. Sure as ?sugar? the hosts were making the pineapple pieces. In the end, the spread of food at her house was amazing? spinach dip, sausage rolls, enchiladas, spinach dip, cheese ball, cream cheese dip, veggies, bread, and did I say more spinach dip. Everything was wonderful, but, surprise, surprise, one of the first dishes to be completely cleaned up was the bacon-pine-appies.

Countdown is at 18 hours

For sushi that is! After remaining almost 100% sushi-free for six months, I am going to do break the strict regiment and eat raw fish once again. We have the time, 1(ish), we have the location, (Granville and Robson(ish)), and I have high hopes.

I say "almost 100%" as Jon and I tried making it one day in September with veggies. Don?t get me wrong it was technically sushi and not too bad. We had the just-add-water wasabi, sushi rice, veggies: cukes, avocados and carrots, and even soy sauce. But believe me, it just needed some salmon and tuna.

oh the hors d'oeuvres

Last weekend was the Sleep Country Christmas party at the Holiday Inn Victoria. This is just one of the perks I get from dating a Sleep Country employee. I got treated to an evening of food, award presentations and bad jive music. On of the high-lights came early in the evening with the hors d'oeuvre presentation. Jonny spotted it and hit it fast. He returned with fruit and cheese and what he called scallops. We then went in for a closed inspection on the "scallops" only to find it was a piece of bacon wrapped around a plain old hot dog weiner with a toothpick holding it together!

Hot damn, I love bacon, and hot dogs are great too. Why have I not seen hot bacon dogs earlier in my life?? Why didn't I think about making them. What better pot luck treat, (except at a vegetarian party).

Anyways, the evening rolled on and The Christine Magee showed up. Talk about big time celebrities... If you have seen a Sleep Country ad, you have seen Christine Magee....

Well, that is Christine Magee! We met her, shook her hand and then got a drunken picture of her with us!

Well, as the evening was winding down the music seemed to be getting worse. Jon and I mock-danced a few songs, (or trying to dance), either way we probably looked like stumbling fools. I could hear good music, but it was at the next door conference room. I made a quick cameo into the Fisher-Dukes Restaurant Party and busted a move on their dance floor. It was definitely a more exciting party...

After the brief crashing of the party Jon pulled me out of there and we took off in our little yellow taxi.
