Coasting

Here I sit in the "Business Den" at the Coast Hotel in Naniamo. I am here for a basketball tournement, however, I have just been riding the pine. Don't worry, coach didn't bench me, my leg did.

On Friday night at St. Margaret's Secondary School, (Camosun's "home" gym), my leg cramped up. This was at the beginning of one of the uglier games. We pulled off a win in the end, (unfortunately I had to watch it from the sideline). The speculation from the team trainer, coach, and a few other random folks is that I have a slight tear in the hamstring and my leg is "protecting" it by giving me a permacramp.

Back to my location though....

Because my hotel room is still filled with groggy basketball players I had to find a place to do homework... I asked the staff at the hotel, and after promising I wouldn't use or abuse the "equipment" , they put me in the "Business Den".

It is pretty slick, "fully eqipped office for your business needs". I am sitting at the executive desk and on the executive chair. I am looking, (but not touching), the speaker telephone w/ free local calls. I am typing at the forbidden PC w/ Windows XP, with the following programs: Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I printed my homework off the "high speed" internet using the Lexmark X125 colour printer/fax machine. I was looking at the photocopier, until they moved it out to another room. I guess they feared I would copy some "documents". I looked around for the "selection of basic office supplies" and was disappointed at the selection of crappy "Coast Hotel" pencils and pens and half a dozen paper clips. There is however a stapler that looks like it could easily staple 400 pages together in one fallow swoop...

Anyways for a break from homework I decided to calculate how much I would have had to pay for the room. I used it for 3 hours yesterday and 4 hours this morning.... At:

30 minutes for $10.00
One hour $15.00
1/2 a day, (max 4 hours) $40.00
One day (max 8 hours) $60.00

I figure it would have cost $80.00. I recommend not using this room unless you have a company paying for it or, well, that is about the only reason I'd recommend using this room.

Oh, must run, my part-time job as a chaffeur is requiring me to pick up the team in the rental van and drive them to the LAST game of the tournament...

Is it Christmas Time Yet?

Really, is it?

3-weeks in to the second semester of the Bridge Program and I already feel tired, achey, stressed, and "smart". The two full weeks of R & R seem so far away right now.... So very far away, (dream sequence)......

Oh, for all the fans out there;

The Chargers Women's Basketball team, are now 1 and 4. Recent loses include OUC, Langara and Douglas. I'd report the scores, but I tend to forget them the minute I step off the court, (as was the case this weekend in North Van).

The girls are off to improve the record in Calgary this weekend. I opted to stay home and study----ah the joys of school.

I am a Camosun Charger

You may ask, "What is a Camosun Charger?"

I will answer, "The women's basketball team on Vancouver Island that you should fear!" Well, last night at least.

Starting at 4 on Saturday we played our second game of the season against the Malaspina Mariners, (Naniamo), and WON! I have been told this was the first win in 2 years, (against a BC women's college team!), for the chargers. OI!

Well, everyone was estatic and it was time for Rookie Party. I, being 24 and the rest of team having an average age of 19, voluteered to be one of the sober designated drivers.

We dressed the rookies up as pimp rookie, clown rookie, ducky rookie, princess rookie and lucky leprauchan rookie and headed out. We made a pit stop at my house for a few shots and pizza then off to meet the boy's rookie party.

Here is where it got messy...

What can I say about the rest. In typical male basketball fashion, the Rookie Boys doned dresses and drank far too much. By 10 pm half the male rookies and 4/5 of the female rookies were ready for bed, however, everyone kept drinking. You got to love the logic of drunks.

As the night progressed, er rather, degressed, I must say that I haven't seen this much vomit, passing out or making out with strangers since I spent my two years attending Okanagan College back in 97-99!

It is times like these I don't mind being "old". Since I started playing I have had more than a couple fellow teammates tell me, "You are in really good shape for someone your age" or "I hope I will be in good shape when I am your age". Long and short viva 24! (for the next 9-days, then VIVA 25!)

PS.

*Next weekend the CHARGERS are in North Vancouver, (October 9th and 10th times TBA)
**We are back in Victoria October 22.
