Women's Nail Driving Contest

After laughing about its existence, I ended up being a competitor in the 43rd Annual Oak Bay Tea Party Women's Nail Driving Contest. I, unfortunately, was ousted in the first round.

As the name implies it is "Women" only, although some argument could be made on some of the contestants. I am not sure the origin of the contest, but either way it was a rather exciting moment as Cathleen the Irish Women, Fay the 2-Time Nail Contest Champion, Fay's daughter and another woman battle it out in the finals. There was some serious hammering going on as the crowd cheered away. In the end Cathleen handily won. She gave a victory speech as she received a trophy that looked like a piece of wood with a gold nail in it, (the losers received a trophy that looked like a piece of wood with a bent nail in it).

Although the Nail Driving Contest was my definite highlight at the Oak Bay Tea Party I must add that the Baron of Beef sandwich came in a close second. It emitted a lovely smell as is rotated over an open flame. As well there was a Sea King Helicopter Demonstration put on by the 443 Pat Bay Squadron, a bathtub race (in the Ocean), and a Jazzercise Demonstration. All in all a nice way to spend an afternoon.

PS, I also had a delightful cup of Tetley tea served in a teacup complete with a saucer by people resembling the Tetley Tea Gaffers.
